F4U Corsair again

Napsal jezura. Publikováno v 12. HAS

If you have been watching us for a long time, you know that the F4U Corsair from Flying Bulls team stable should have come to see us in 2018. Unfortunately, it did not turn out due to a technical defect. But this year we will see him here and we are looking forward to it!

just to remind
The Flying Bulls’ Corsair has an active and also moving history:
It was originally supplied to the US Navy – but was fortunately never deployed (the war ended).
The special feature of the Corsair is the hydraulically-foldable wings – this makes sense – this aircraft was used on aircraft carriers and is could be put away with the folded-up wings saving space.
Some years later, it ended up in central America – Honduras to be precise – where it was in operation until 1965. It was then purchased by a Texan millionaire – and this is precisely who the pioneer and wise old man of the Flying Bulls, Sigi Angerer, got to know at the end of the eighties. After numerous negotiations, Angerer succeeded in buying the Corsair privately, the decisive meeting between him and Red Bull Boss Mr. Dietrich Mateschitz and the birth of The Flying Bulls was of course a bit later, but the Corsair is proudly declared as the “mascot” of The Flying Bulls. The machine is equipped with modern navigation instruments – a second seat was also retrofitted.
The pilots describe the sound of the engine simply and poignantly: brutish but harmonic!
There are 2 examples of this plane in Europe!

PHILIPP HAIDBAUERPILOT
PHILIPP HAIDBAUER

born 1980 in Hallein (AUT)
As a child, he was fascinated by old, rusty tractors – but soon his passion for flying
was awakened and this could no longer be stopped. Once he first got to know the Flying Bulls
in the summer of 2000, carrying out different activities during an internship – from cleaning
the aircraft through to actively helping with the restoration of the DC6 – he could no longer
abandon his dream of one day becoming a Flying Bull himself.
He therefore left his studies and applied to become a military pilot in the Austrian Air Force.
The following years Haidbauer gained much flying experience as an ‘air surveillance and air defence’ fighter pilot.
Haidbauer never lost contact with the Flying Bulls – and in 2009 he ultimately became a member of the Flying Bulls team,
whilst still working as a pilot in the Tiger Squadron of the Austrian Air Force.
In the middle of 2013, despite the prospect of a place in the cockpit of a Eurofighter, he ended his active service
in the Air Force and is now a full-time member of the Flying Bulls pilot team.
And what definite wishes/objectives does Haidbauer have? He now flies a considerable number of models from the hangar of the Flying Bulls …
the Alpha Jets, the Douglas DC-6, the F4U-Corsair, the Trojan but also the Boing Stearman, the Sukhoi SU-29, the Extra 300, the C337 Push Pull,
the Fairchild PT-19 and the two executive jets – Citation Encore+ and the Honda Jet.
… but the dream is nevertheless not fully realised – because there are still other treasures in the fleet of the Flying Bulls,
which he is still dreaming of being able to fly himself one day.
