I don’t think that even after a four-year hiatus, the 13th Historical Airshow lost nothing of its dynamism. The four-hour program ran according to your hopes, and from your point of view. I believe it was only demanding that the summer weather was too demanding.
Otherwise, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have contributed to the course now of the last Historical Airshow.

Douglas C-47 SKYTRAIN

Napsal jezura. Publikováno v 12. HAS, 12. HAS

Drag Em Oot

Douglas C-47 c/n 19345, was delivered to the United States Army Air Force on 28 December 1943 and had serial 42-100882 assigned. She joined operations with 87th Troop Carrier Squadron based at Greenham Common in England equipped as glider pick up, her crew named her Drag ’em Oot (slang for ‘Drag Them Out’).
She participated in the air assault during D-Day when at 00:46 on 06 June 1944 she dropped 18 paratroopers of the US 82nd Airborne Division just behind the Normandy beach heads, near St. Mere Église. She returned safe to the UK and after a second mission that very same day, she started to resupply the troops in France.
In September 1944 she was transferred to the RAF, designated a Dakota C.3 and assigned the British serial TS422. Once with the RAF she was assigned to Number 1 Heavy Glider Servicing Unit, attached to 38 Group RAF at Netheravon, Wiltshire. The RAF wanted to have a specialist glider recovery unit and TS422 started recovering Horsa assault gliders from the Normandy beach heads as soon as she joined the RAF. The unit recovered about 40 Horsa’s prior to Operation Market Garden. TS422 herself was just like the Horsa’s she recovered from the Normandy beaches, in action during the biggest paradropping in history: Operation Market Garden in September 1944. During this mission the pilot must have been severely wounded considering this Dakota was found to have signs of 12 bullet holes on the top of her cockpit and nose; probably caused by being attacked by a German fighter at some point but this Dakota warbird could take a beating.
She was repaired and in August 1945 she joined 435 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force which had just returned from Burma to the UK.
After the war ended the Dakota left for Canada, where she served with the RCAF as a trainer, a transport and whilst equipped with skis and jato rockets, as a search and rescue aircraft.
After her fruitful military career she ended up in the USA, serving with various civilian companies, being registered as N5831B. She was then grounded for a few years until Paddy Green found her in Arizona upon his search for a C-47 to be restored as a WW2 veteran.
Following an inspection (plenty of DC-3 / C-47 hulks around but most are in deplorable shape when inspected thoroughly) she was purchased and prepared to a condition suitable for the long ferry flight back to England. The flight to Liverpool took 7 days and 35 hours flying time, but occurred without any technical problems.
Once in the UK she was registered N473DC and repainted in the livery she now appears in: the original markings as worn during her missions on D-Day 1944 with USAAF serial 42-100882 and coded 3X-P, nicknamed Drag ’em Oot (slang for ‘drag them out’) then piloted by Bill Allin.
‘Drag ’em Oot’ will be kept in military trim and used by Aero Legends in a number of roles including parachuting, air displays and in support of the soon to be launched re-enactment business – Combat Legends Ltd. ‘Drag ’em Oot’ will remain hangared at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre for the foreseeable future. Aero Legends is also searching for a passenger configuration DC-3 and will have news on this soon.

F4U Corsair again

Napsal jezura. Publikováno v 12. HAS

If you have been watching us for a long time, you know that the F4U Corsair from Flying Bulls team stable should have come to see us in 2018. Unfortunately, it did not turn out due to a technical defect. But this year we will see him here and we are looking forward to it!
Details on web Flying Bulls

just to remind
The Flying Bulls’ Corsair has an active and also moving history:
It was originally supplied to the US Navy – but was fortunately never deployed (the war ended).
The special feature of the Corsair is the hydraulically-foldable wings – this makes sense – this aircraft was used on aircraft carriers and is could be put away with the folded-up wings saving space.
Some years later, it ended up in central America – Honduras to be precise – where it was in operation until 1965. It was then purchased by a Texan millionaire – and this is precisely who the pioneer and wise old man of the Flying Bulls, Sigi Angerer, got to know at the end of the eighties. After numerous negotiations, Angerer succeeded in buying the Corsair privately, the decisive meeting between him and Red Bull Boss Mr. Dietrich Mateschitz and the birth of The Flying Bulls was of course a bit later, but the Corsair is proudly declared as the “mascot” of The Flying Bulls. The machine is equipped with modern navigation instruments – a second seat was also retrofitted.
The pilots describe the sound of the engine simply and poignantly: brutish but harmonic!
There are 2 examples of this plane in Europe!

PHILIPP HAIDBAUERPILOT
PHILIPP HAIDBAUER

born 1980 in Hallein (AUT)
As a child, he was fascinated by old, rusty tractors – but soon his passion for flying
was awakened and this could no longer be stopped. Once he first got to know the Flying Bulls
in the summer of 2000, carrying out different activities during an internship – from cleaning
the aircraft through to actively helping with the restoration of the DC6 – he could no longer
abandon his dream of one day becoming a Flying Bull himself.
He therefore left his studies and applied to become a military pilot in the Austrian Air Force.
The following years Haidbauer gained much flying experience as an ‘air surveillance and air defence’ fighter pilot.
Haidbauer never lost contact with the Flying Bulls – and in 2009 he ultimately became a member of the Flying Bulls team,
whilst still working as a pilot in the Tiger Squadron of the Austrian Air Force.
In the middle of 2013, despite the prospect of a place in the cockpit of a Eurofighter, he ended his active service
in the Air Force and is now a full-time member of the Flying Bulls pilot team.
And what definite wishes/objectives does Haidbauer have? He now flies a considerable number of models from the hangar of the Flying Bulls …
the Alpha Jets, the Douglas DC-6, the F4U-Corsair, the Trojan but also the Boing Stearman, the Sukhoi SU-29, the Extra 300, the C337 Push Pull,
the Fairchild PT-19 and the two executive jets – Citation Encore+ and the Honda Jet.
… but the dream is nevertheless not fully realised – because there are still other treasures in the fleet of the Flying Bulls,
which he is still dreaming of being able to fly himself one day.

Hawker Hurricane Mk.IV

Napsal jezura. Publikováno v 12. HAS

Preparations for the continuation of airshows are in full stream and we would like to introduce you to a very rare representative of aviation history.

The Hurricane was commissioned into the RAF in 1937 and flew in eighteen squadrons since the start of the Second World War. Achieving fame for his role in the Battle of Britain, however, Hurricane continued his service in virtually every battle during World War II. The Hurricane, designated IV, entered service in 1943. It was an offensive version against ground targets
with four 20mm guns. The Mk.IV designation was fitted with a Merlin 24 or 27 engine, optimized for operation in hot climates, and a three-bladed propeller. This version was also fitted with a new wing that could carry two bombs, eight “60 pounder” rockets, or a 40mm gun as required. A total of 794 of this version were built, plus conversions from other versions.
Less than 15 of the 14,583 originally produced are currently airworthy, and one of the last is in the Mk.IV version.
